Course Overview
Configuring Cisco Nexus 5000 Switches (DCNX5K) Version 2.1 is a 5-day ILT training program that is designed for systems and field engineers, consulting systems engineers, technical solutions architects, and Cisco integrators and partners who implement and configure Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switches and Cisco Nexus 2000 Series Fabric Extenders.
The course provides the key components and procedures that are needed to install, configure, manage, and troubleshoot Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switches and Cisco Nexus 2000 Series Fabric Extenders in the LAN, SAN, and unified fabric environments.

The primary audience for this course is as follows:
- Network engineers, systems engineers, consulting systems engineers, technical solutions architects, and Cisco integrators and partners who sell, implement, and maintain Cisco Nexus products in the data center
The secondary audience for this course is as follows:
- Network designers, network administrators, and network managers responsible for identifying and managing Cisco Nexus products in the data center
Prerequisites
- Good understanding of networking protocols
— Recommended CCNA Certification
- Good understanding of the Fibre Channel Protocol and the SAN environment
— Recommended attendance of a Fibre Channel Protocol class or equivalent experience
— Recommended attendance of the Implementing Cisco Storage Network Solutions (ICSNS) class or equivalent experience
Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to perform the following tasks:
- Identify the products that comprise the Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switches product family
- Identify the products that comprise the Cisco Nexus 2000 Series Fabric Extender product family
- Understand Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switch system architecture
- Understand the architecture, features, and usage of the Cisco Nexus Operating System (NX-OS) Software
- Configure network features on Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switches for LAN operation
- Configure Cisco Nexus 2000 Series Fabric Extenders for operation with the Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switches
- Configure Ethernet port channels and virtual port channels (vPC) on Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switches
- Configure Quality of Service (QoS)
- Identify and understand the components of the Fibre Channel Protocol, the Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) protocol, and IEEE Data Center Bridging (DCB) Ethernet Enhancements
- Configure Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switches to support the FCoE protocol
- Configure Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switches for connection to the SAN
- Secure the operation of Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switches
- Configure system management features on Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switches
- Understand the high availability and In Service Software Update (ISSU) features of Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switches
- Understand and implement a structured troubleshooting process using available tools and resources of Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switches and troubleshoot real world issues relating to the LAN, SAN, and FCoE
